Which is better. Prices have finally come down to my price range. I've read and heard that LCD is more durable and has much less resolution loss then plasma. Then I read that plasma has a more vivid picture and is better for watching sports, which of course is my primary reason for getting a big screen tv. What do you all think?

from what I understand, and others may tell differnt, but LCD is good for anything up to 30" and Plasma is good for 31"+ There is also a size to distance that your sitting ratio when it comes to all this. If the TV is to big for your room then its very rough on the eyes and brain.

plasma.

For quality of picture alone, Plasma.

For the long run? LCD by far....Plasma don't last more then 2 years, at best

an lcd is the way to go IMO. look at this this way, either one is goona blow away the normal tv's, and if your goona spend the cash might as well enjoy it for more than a couple years. i went through months of research about a year ago, and went with an lcd and am glad i did.

if you buy at costco, they automatically extend the warranty to 2 years for free, and you can return the tv whithin 60 or 90 days no questions asked if you do not like it. that and their usually cheaper than most other stores. i strongly urge you to research whatever tv you are going to buy to see which ones produce a quality non hd picture, as some hd tv's will reproduce a whorrible "regular" picture.

make sure you're looking at LCD with a high refresh rate, then you'll be in good shape.

I say LCD as well. For now, I just have a pretty small one, but it still has a nice picture.

On a side note, I saw first hand the other day what an LCD big screen looks like after someone throws a Wii remote at it. Some idiot had an epic fail while playing Wii bowling the other day on one of the public lounge TVs on campus...
