If you mean the Ctenopoma acutirostre then that should be a great tankmate.Topping at close to six inches they constantly move around and patrol the tank and are usually not quarrelsome towards other fish.

Yep Ctenopoma acutirostre...didn't even know that name, they seem to go by so many. That's the one I am talking about though.
Yeah, comnon and trade names are all over the place lol and there are a few different species that are known as bush and leaf fish.
The Ctenopoma has been a mini monster favorite of mine for years.

From what I have been reading, they max at about 8-9" and are slow growing? One of my friends in my cichlid club said they need live plants and are hard to feed. Have you heard that? I have only read one or two things on them but have not read that yet at all.

The Ctenopomas are rather slow growers but I have never seen one over six inches and none that I have had ever exhibited a need for live plants. They don't eat plants and I don't think it matters to them if they are real or plastic.

Yeah they are great. I have one and I also have never seen one over 6". They will eat just about anything mine loves carnivore pellets and tilapia. Mine is around 6" got there in about a year and a half. So I dont know so much about the slow grower. He's been this size for about 6 months now. I got mine from petsmart for $6 at the size of a quarter. I've heard they can be quarlisome to conspifics, mine gets into it with my tapajo everyonce in a while but that's no big deal a little flairing and it's over. They do enjoy some branches and leaves to camouflage into. That' one of the cool things about them it's super fun to watch them act like a leaf and stalk prey. If you feed things like ghost shrimp it's fun to watch. I don't do it very often as I worry about contamination. If they have some at preuss and one of the guy says there been there for a while I'll take home a treat.

Ctenopoma Acutirostre are great fish. The largest one I've seen was at an LFS.. I'm bad at guessing size but it seemed right around 6". The thing was huge.

I also got mine from Petsmart but he's a slower grower. He was about 3/4" long at the end of May and seven months later he's maybe 3.5"-4"? Used to like Hikari carnivore pellets but now will spit them out. He'll eat NLS 3mm sinking pellets and omega one shrimp pellets like a pig though. He likes to hide in driftwood/plants if spooked (what fish doesn't) but is usually out and about. Gets along with my sen and delhezi just fine and the most "aggressive" thing he'll do is steal pellets right in front of their faces.
