I think I may have a leak in one of my 55 gallons. At the top of the tank underneath of the trim it developes a small drop that runs down the glass maybe once or twice a day. Is this the silicone on the inside of the tank at the top? What would you suggest doing? The tank is only a couple years old. Should I drain the water level slightly and try to reseal that area with a little more silicone? Or I could just drain it slightly below the trim line and leave it be. At first I thought it may have been some water that ran off of my arm after having it in the tank.

Maybe this is a stupid question but I was looking at some articles on re-sealing tanks and they didn't mention or show anything on puting it at the top. Is there even silicone place at the top of the tanks? I'll have to look at it a little bit later. The tank is only a couple years old so I know the silicone is new and no leaks are present anywhere else.
Anyone? Another thing, the small leak is in the middle at the top, not even at the corner where most silicone is taken from bottom to top. Maybe there's condensation getting through the trim piece at the top?
I've taken several rims off, and just as you suspected, they don't use silicone to seal the rim. They do use silicone along the rim to glue on the rim and to take up gaps from imperfections in the glass cutting. Voids in the silicone under the rim are common.
Yep, I agree. You could take the top off and re-silicone, or just put a good layer on the inside under the rim to stop the leak.
Yea, brace is perfect. So would I be able to just lower the water level enough to place a small amount of silicone on the inside of the tank near the rim where the leak is at. How long would it take to cure?
