Leaking 75gal

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I hate to bring up the obvious as it is one of those things you don't really want to think about but..

You have a leak up near the top.
Doesn't this mean the silicone is failing? The silicone IS what's holding the tank together. If you just patch the leak by essentially filling the corner this won't add a twit of strength to the structure. If it is leaking at the top where there is almost no water pressure it would seem to me that the silicone is starting to maybe unzip?

You could have a tank that is "crying out" that it is going to come apart soon, that you sort of quietly silence by stopping the leak.

Maybe I'm too paranoid but if any of the three 55s in my living room started leaking, it would have its level dropped pronto while I arranged a replacement - also promptly!

Good point, inspect your seams closely and make sure there is no repetition of the aforemention leak propogating somewhere else in the tank.

If not, then fix it by any means necessary. A 75 gallon is not worth the hassle of tearing it down to reseal it. I would not recommend resealing a tank to someone who does not have at least a little "know how." If you do, them by all means go ahead and redo the tank. Again...do you trust your seal better than a failing factory seal? questions......hmmm?:confused:
