I hate to bring up the obvious as it is one of those things you don't really want to think about but..
You have a leak up near the top.
Doesn't this mean the silicone is failing? The silicone IS what's holding the tank together. If you just patch the leak by essentially filling the corner this won't add a twit of strength to the structure. If it is leaking at the top where there is almost no water pressure it would seem to me that the silicone is starting to maybe unzip?
You could have a tank that is "crying out" that it is going to come apart soon, that you sort of quietly silence by stopping the leak.
Maybe I'm too paranoid but if any of the three 55s in my living room started leaking, it would have its level dropped pronto while I arranged a replacement - also promptly!
