I bought 4 Catalina Aquarium Canister filters off ebay about a year ago and 1 of them just started leaking. After cleaning up about 20 gallons of water off the carpet i have disconnected the damn thing. Apparantley the filter started leaking from where the power cord comes out of the top. Its leaking right out of the opening where the cord comes out of the unit. Is there anyway to fix this? Looks like i have a worthless canister filter and i thought i got such a good deal on the things.

I thought about doing that. Its a damn shame though. Those filters aren't that old and to be leaking out of a power supply is scary. I hope the others don't start leaking at the same spot. Could i just put silicone around where the cord comes out of the unit?

You can try to fix it, but it really isn't worth it. CA canisters were discontinued a while back, and sell for next to nothing now.

I tend to not mix water and electricity :eek3:
... toss that thing!

sealing it from the outside will just prevent the water from flowing onto the floor, but it may make contact with some power, and boy would that be a ride. i would ditch the thing and get an ehime or something!!

Rule of thumb, you get what you pay for. :D

Yeah thats the truth. I normally try to buy only the best equipment but when i bought these suckers i was trying to get rid of all my undergravel filters and was trying to cut corners a bit. Looks like its going to bite me in the ass. Now i'll probably have to start buying new canister filters cause i'm scared of them now. I had to clean up about 20 gallons of water not to mention the prospect of getting electrocuted in the process. I should have spend the extra money on 4 Eheims.

I just bought a XP2 and 6 days after I hooked it up (today) I found about 6 gallons of water on my floor and t damn thing is leaking out of the power cord. Is this common? This is the first time I have bought a cannister filter and I have to say I am dissapointed!
