So I bought a third XP3 on Ebay, which means I would have had 3 XP3s on my 150 for under $200 - not a bad setup IMO.

But this morning when I set it up it seemed fine, left for a few hours and when I came home noticed my tank's water was really low - specially for just doing a water change that morning. Low and behold the new canister is leaking badly from one of the corners - very badly.

I contacted the seller just a few minutes ago, which can be hit or miss because it's ebay. If the seller won't go through with a refund is there any way to repair the damaged canister?

Yeah it looks like there is a crack almost the down the entire height of the canister. When I set it up before leaving the house everything was fine after I installed it. I came back about 6ish hours later and 1/4th of my tank had drained into my stand and the new canister was making an awful sound.

I then filled the canister back up, primed it and started it up and there was water literally gushing out one of the sides after I started it back up.

This freaked me out, and I was grateful that it didn't cause more damage then just a wet stand.

i duno bout u geting the person who sold u it to replace it. But i got a xp3 with the same problem a full lenth crack going down a corner. pack it up stick it in a closet. Till u can find a new main body for it . Like im doin

If you just bought it, I'm thinking you should be able to return it. Is there a chance it got damaged during shipping?

I want to give the seller the benefit of the doubt, but how it was packaged and how it's leaking I highly doubt it. I mean, keep in mind he hasn't responded yet - but it is later at night on a Saturday, but the fact that it's leaking so severly and I didn't even notice the crack on a quick inspection (so it had to be hairline or thin crack at that, then when I ran the filter it had to split farther open) I highly doubt it happened in shipping. I may be new to shipping fish related equipment, but I've been shipping PC parts and such for the past 5+ years, and the unit was packed well.

I just don't know how paypal does with items that were delivered but turned out to be damaged.

You say it has a crack down the side. I probably would not tell him the story you posted because he may think that you caused it. Because if it is cracked as you say I can not understand why it did not leak in the beginning.

Well that kind of has me stumped as well. I set it up, ran fine from the get go, then spent maybe 5-10 minutes looking at the tank then ran to jump in the shower and head out for several hours. Came home and noticed something was wrong right away - tank water level was way low and new canister was making odd sounds. Filled the new canister back up with tank water and plugged it back in and water just started shooting out the side of it. Only thing I can think of is that it had a hairline crack down the side of it and after use it forced it to split?

I think your assumption is probably correct, a hairline would hold for a little bit, but after pressure the crack could give way and spill. It may have been dropped before being packed up and didn't look damaged before shipping. You might be able to order another body through your LFS if they are a Hagen dealer, it would be classified as a replacement part. But the price would be less then the whole thing but not cheap i'm sure.

Let me know how it goes for ya. I had a ebay seller ship me an fx5 that the input tube on the lid is broken off. I filed a complaint with paypal, its been over a week and no response from the seller. Makes me wonder if the seller knew it. I hope the seller makes things right for you
