ok here's the scoop, my 125 is literly falling apart, three days ago the center support fell off into the tank and that should have been a sign to me of things to come but I just told myself that I would just silcone it back in place when I had more time. well today the tank just started leaking from about three different places and now I have all my fish in the leftover 60 gallon tank but its way too small for all those fish. I really dont know what to do now can I get this tank repaired I bought it used and if it was put together with cheap silicone wont the entire tank eventually give, also how long can my fish remain healthy in such a small tank, I'm really thinking about just selling them at this point but dont really want to becouse I've raised them since they were babies, please give me some advice if you have any. By the way this is what I have in my 60g. 2 Peacock bass at about 7-8inches one red oscar at about 7inches one ornate bicher also about 7inches, one electric cat about 6inches but very fat, one green terror about 4inches, 4red parrots all small about 2-3inches, one butterfly pleco about 6inches. What would you do? I really dont have the money for a new tank thats why I bought used in the first place so thats not really an option. I could save up again and keep my eyes open at he classified ads but cant say for sure when I would find something sutible. Please give your opinions.

I would buy a frame kit for a 125 and take the old frame on the top off and put a new one on. Then scrape off all the old silicone and redo the WHOLE tank. Let is cure for a good week just to be sure. And make sure your doing W/C EVERYDAY. The fish should be fine though if you do that. Feed minimal amounts! Good luck

I thought about doing the repair myself but dont know if the wife would let me set it up again after all I just spent about 4hours drying our kitchen and dinning room floor when I got home from work there was about 4inches of water left in the tank.
What kind of silicone would I use? the stuff at Home Depot???
Where can I get the new frame kit? lfs???
Thanks for your input.

I have some of the stuff from the local fish store but it says on the package not sutible for building tanks over 30gals, should this be ok to use since its only being used to seal the tank?

thanks for the link I have to call for the frame its not shown on their site as available but I will try, they do have the sealant though so thats good. How do I go about removing the old one from the tank I will try to get as much done this weekend, should I use a boxcutter blade to scorr it then just pull it off? Thanks to everyone who helped OH and to update on the fish the bass and oscar are all fighting for territory and you can hear water splash out of the tank all the time, (I better get a good lid and weigh it down with something)

Hey there, I wish you well with your repair. Would you maybe have a few friends with some old tanks laying around that you could borrow for a little while so that you could do your own repairs. Or maybe even a pet store. I know the pet store I go to often was sell all of thier old tanks for fairly cheep. Wouldn't hurt to check it out.

Good Luck

Seach the diy section thers a thread on fixing a big tank frame with angle brackets and screws.I got a top frame for a 125 for $33 at a local pet center(Theres a thread on that in diy too)you have to find someone willing to help you and not rip you off.
Most folks use ge type 1 silicone window and door for repairs make sure it DOES NOT say bioseal or mildew resistant.Use a caulking gun its the only way.wear rubber gloves silicone sucks to get off your skin. After you caulk run your gloved finger up each seam to smooth it into the corners.Good luck.

i sealed my 100gal my self. practically took it apart, did a inner lining along the tanks seams with aquarium safe silicone from my lfs then i went to homedepot and used 100% silicone as a second layer over the first one. let it all sit for a week, then i filled it. let it sit for a week, all was well. drained it, put it back in my room.
