Most folks use ge type 1 silicone window and door for repairs make sure it DOES NOT say bioseal or mildew resistant.Use a caulking gun its the only way.wear rubber gloves silicone sucks to get off your skin. After you caulk run your gloved finger up each seam to smooth it into the corners.Good luck.

Type 1? I bought Type II last night. I have to check the label again. Hope I didnt get the wrong stuff.

type II is not as stong as type I but the fumes are less toxic. In either case do any siliconing outside or in the garage.

even in the garage, i almost passed out. face first in any tank will cause massive fumes. i had afan on 1 end blowing the fumes n i wore a shirt over my face. the fumes are seriuosly strong in the tank. i suggest doing it in ur driveway or backyard...and try not to move the tank around once u strip all the silicone.

thanks again you guys, I guess my biggest fear isnt doing the repair myself I'm pretty handy at most mechanical problems, its just to see the center brace on the tank completly fall off on its own and thats a part of the tank that doesnt really carry the most weight, makes me wonder what kind of a shotty job they did with the rest of the tank, in the back of my mind I can see an entire panel of glass coming off and all the water draining at once. also everybody has said to water test the tank for a week before using it again, well this tank was up and running for over two months with no signs of trouble,
I will probably fix it myself just cuz I dont really have the money for other options but I guess I'm just really paranoid now cuz this is the first time this has ever happened to me.
