Leaning Rocks against the glass?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I get nervous just thinking about it. I have some pretty large river rocks but don't put them near the glass. I make sure there very flat on the bottom and won't move even if the sand should shift. I do stack drift wood up on the glass. I see alot of people who do it so I guess its safe but I don't do it.

Gravity typically pulls down. As long as the rocks don't fall into the glass, most of the pressure will be displaced into the bottom piece of glass.

cichlids move rocks effortlessly,

Cichlids move gravel effortlessly... not rocks...

It'll be fine if you're careful with it and place it securely enough. It may scratch your glass though.

Short, simple and 100% accurate… a perfect response…

This is how I’ve decorated tanks for many many years… and I’ve never had any problem with it expect scratches in the glass…

In all of these tanks I have rocks propped against glass… and each of these tanks have been decorated as such for at least a few years…

Thats a great looking setup Nutcase....

I have rocks against the glass in my 55g. Even if a rock were going to fall the volume of water it has to move to fall will cushion its fall somewhat. If the tank was empty it would be a different story.

I, personally, wouldn't try it. Then again, I wouldn't put anything heavy on the bottom when the tank is on an open bottom stand either. Paranoid. I have, however, seen this done quite often. As long as you are careful, I don't imagine it would be a problem.

all depends on what you have yer tank stocked with.. if its full of fish that cant thrash yer rocks around than i wouldnt worry about it.. if not than i would worry about it
