I recently lost my "wet pet" (11" Texas hybrid) and am considering stocking angels in my 125g but I have a few questions. First, I have a FX 5 with dual power heads. If I turn the out down to 50% or so will that still be too much flow for the angels? Second, I also want 3-5 clown loaches for the bottom of the tank. Have any of you successfully housed both angels and clowns? Lastly, how many angels should I get for my 125 if I do get 3-5 clowns? I will be buying all of them as juveniles. Any other suggestions and advise is welcomed. Thank you!
Firstly, I am sorry for your loss. Many of us have been there.
You can comfortably house 10-12 full grown angels in that tank. They don't add a very large bioload to the tank, so you can easily house 3 clown loaches to the tank at full grown size. I would do 6 clowns to start with and then when they get to about 10", rehome 3 of them. That way the three you rehome can have the same home if you give/sell to a home rather than a store.
I have read mixed reviews of loaches with angels. Angels are fairly slow feeders while loaches are fast and energetic. Some people report loaches being too active for angels and discus, which causes the angels and discus to be stressed.
