least favorite cichlid?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
For me its the cichlid that's ignored. I understand how unexciting it is (after years of being in this hobby) to go and see nothing but oscars, jd, jags, etc. I wouldn't even consider looking at them and I ended up off cichlids for quite awhile, keeping dats and arros etc., however I recently and reluctantly adopted a trio of oscars that now has me renewed in how killer even the everyday cichlids are. I was only holding these fish to rehome them and now have set up a tank for two of them that my family and I have fallen in love with. It's made me realize I've always gotten more from the cichlds i really spent time with. That being said giant nuchal humps make me wanna rip my eyes out. Other than that i still haven't found a cichlid I didn't like.

RD/Midas for me, don't like the goldfish color. Barred Midas is better but still eh.
As a Midas owner it always irks me when a person sees my tank with my 10" orange Midas and calls it a "goldfish" :goldfish:

I suppose I would go with Barred Midas. It's a pointless fish.

Midas are bright and beautiful but their drawback is they are aggressive and tend to have to be kept alone, at least visitors will say "wow look at that is it marine? its so bright"
if you have a barred Midas its big aggressive and dull. makes it look like you just caught some kind of dull fish from a lake and shoved it in your tank lol.
No one ever thinks my Midas is a saltwater fish, they always say goldfish! :(

As a Midas owner I do not like the "barred" look unless its the mix with the orange and bars. I also do not like the goofy oversize golf ball humps that some of the fish develop. and I especially do not like the mixed hybrids that are a Midas want a bee. So my favorite fish is also one of my most hated fish - go figure.

No love for my frontosa's all because of a nauchal hump... no fair! lol

Thats a great looking Frontosa, I think nuchal humps suit them perfectly.

also on an unrelated note I had no idea such a place as Mechanicsburg existed... it sounds like something from a kids cartoon haha :P
