I think my tap water conditioner /dechlorinater aqua plus killed my expensive plecs 2 weeks past did a my water changes and in that week i lost 3 adonis plecs and a magnum thought it was due to plumbing work in my building but today i was adding water to vivarium and opened the conditioner jug and whoa!! rotten egg smell i mean bad !!! checked the bottom it expires next year hmmp its a sticker that looks like anyone could have put on.i keep it in a dark cool place

has anyone else had a problem simlar to this i'm really peeved off about it and can this stuff go bad for any reason and is it toxic to fish...

any thoughts on this please.

also i don't trust this product anymore can i get some tryed and proven brands please this has been my first time having a problem with this product but i'm still changing..

i used Wardley Chlor-out for a while. the stuff was probably 5-6 years old and it still worked. used it for over a year w/ no problems. i recently ran out and now use Kordon NovAqua Plus.

Sounds like the manufacturer had a semi-permeable membrane go bad on their RO unit and allowed contaminants to get nto the product. The rotten egg smell is from biological byproducts of anaerobic bacteria (hydrogen sulphide).

I've always bought my own sodium thiosulphate and mixed it with distilled water to make my own dechlor.

(NOTE: this only works if your water doesn't contain chloramines. An additional compound is needed to break the hydrogen-chlorine-bromine molecular bonds).

I use stress-coat. the only problem is that it over foams my protein skimmer

I use ACE, or if the fish behave badly, windex.

I normally use Seachem Prime, it too has a very strong rotten egg(sulpher) smell, but it says on the bottle that this smell is normal. Is it possible thats the normal smell for it?

no i've used it for years i know the smell.
