Howdy,

That sucks!

Sorry to hear. The fact that only plecos bit the dust still makes me suspect your plumbing, especially if you now have new copper pipes. It takes a while for a conditioner to work, and maybe it was a bad combination of 1) high copper levels and 2) a decaying ingredient which cannot detoxify properly. The beauty about H2S (the rotten egg smell) is that it starts to smell quite a bit before it reaches toxic levels. That makes me suspect multiple factors for the disaster, not only poisoning by H2S.

... that does not support my theory. Had other fish been exposed but not died, then it would have been clearer, since plecos & catfish are most sensitive to copper. Did you have snails/shrimp in the tank? They bite the dust before fish die if it 's copper. Either way, I am glad the number of casualties was limited!

I never thought about it going bad either..... My water is pretty good. Usually add stress coat and a little stress zyme everytime I do a water change and have never had any problems.....

Terribly sorry about your loss! What a bummer......

Not agood thing when this happens.. Now it's up to investigation to get to the bottom of your predicament. Leave no stone unturned

I had plumbing work kill some fish a while back, sorry for the loss dude. I use amquel when I do large water changes (<40%), but I try not to add anything if I do less than 30%. Never heard of it going bad. Some dog food recently made the news for killing a bunch of dogs, find out if they have a lawsuit on them.
