Looks like I might be taking a job in Leavenworth KS and just want to see
1) Any MFKers there?
and
2) What are peoples impressions, advice and other input on the area?

Doing my intel work online and so far crime, cost of living and housing value seem to be below the southern california average.

Thanks in advance.

im just on the missouri side around platte city, about 20 minutes away. IMO its better than living in leavenworth. Leavenworth is a bit older with nothing much to do as far as night life or activities during the day. There is alot more to do on the missouri side around NKC and zona rosa, etc etc. However, if you were wanting to stay on the KS side, The Legends area around the speedway has alot to offer, also about 20 minutes away.

Hot, windy, cold, snow, hail, tornadoes, floods, boring, flat etc. There is a reason house prices are so low there! I have a friend in Independence, KS. :D

Thanks for the input, about what I was expecting to hear. Im OK with living somewhere "boring", Im currently in the desert so the greenery might be a nice change. Im also going to spend about half my time travelling for work so Ill be on the road to more interesting places.
Ive never had to deal with prolonged sub freezing temps though. that may be my biggest adjustment. I dont even know how you deal with that.
My wife is also worried about tornadoes. She seems to think they happen constantly. Im hoping she wrong.

ive lived here by the airport on the north side of kansas city (about 20 minutes from leavenworth) for 26 years. I have never been in a tornado here. In Topeka, KS though, thats another story. That's not to say they don't come around here, but they have always fizzled out or gone around North Kansas City.

I'm originally from Philly, but I've been in Kansas for years. It's OK. Life is what you make it. The cost of living in the Midwest is lower. You've got several decent LFS's in the Kansas City, MO area. You can go have a great time in the Powerlight District, The Plaza and The Legends --as another poster mentioned. You're within a few hours driving distance of The Lake of the Ozarks and St. Louis. As far as tornados go, you're in "Tornado Alley," but they now have tornados in many parts of the country that previously had never had them before. For example --Philly had a tornado watch just last week. Historically speaking, the northeastern seaboard has never been a tornado zone. I recall, as a kid, that Philly would sometimes get side effects of hurricanes coming from the Atlantic. My point is, you're currently living in the Earthquake capital of the country and you probably have zero recollections of ever experiencing a quake. Upon my arrival to Kansas, I experienced much culture shock, but we all adapt. You will be fine and good luck in Kansas.

All good info. thanks. the thing i always say about earthquakes, ive been through a few good size ones, but we dont have a season! other places have "tornado season", "hurricane season" etc. Im actually not worried about it myself, im more concerned about being prepared for single digit cold!
