i have a 110 gallon high 48x19x31. the glass is 1/2" thick and i removed the bottom pane to re-seal the tank properly but cant take out the bottom pane without taking out the trim which is almost impossible to do without braking it. will it be okay the leave the tank without the bottom trim? all glass panes do not sit on the bottom pane, they sit next to it about 1/4" away but with silicone between. thanks in advance.

That is a lot of weight that will be up against that bottom seam especially on a 31" tall tank. I wouldn't do it. It might hold today but come crashing apart while you sleep tomorrow.

pic pic picture !

from what you said, if you leave it on styrofoam you should be ok, do not put it directly on something hard cuz if there is one grain of sand there and you remove the bottom trim it will then sit directly on the bottom glass of your tank and that's a no no ...

good luck

i was told that all the european tanks were frame less. but like he said just make sure it has some foam under it an besides if ya think about it how much you realy think that thin piece of plastic is going to hold. i have a 120 gallon tank 48x24x24 an the frame is broke on the bottom an i dont plan to replace it but mine does have the euro bracing around the top for extra support

110 gallons... thats about 2 carpets, 4 walls, 1 tv, 1 computer, 1 couch, 3 weeks of labor, a few cans of paint, 4 big fans and one really pissed off wife....

sounds like a hell of a good reason to try and save $70...

I wouldn't risk it.. and certainly not the bottom trim.. thats the support that pulls the glasses together for silicon....

I dont think i want a tank where i'm scared of it breaking loose at any minute..

well if it helps any, I filled up my 100 gallon that has no trim on it at all and its 6 feet in the air.Basically what all that means is I dont sleep well at night now and keep jumping up when I think I hear water.Knock on wood,My sealing job and everything is fine and no leaks but the more I talk to people the more I get nervous. It is what it is at this point I guess and I just have to pray to God it will be okay until the spring when I build the garage/fish room behind my house. So I guess that's the equivelant of approximately,90 more days (at least) of sleepless nights. So like Chester said above,go spend the money on the trim. Or at least do what I did and get the same size 1/2" glass pieces the width of the tank and about a foot wide and put one pain on both top corners of the tanks as supports(old school tank style).AND SEAL THEM TO THE TANK! It will hopefully keep them from bowing which will lead to the explosion and as Chester said,
"110 gallons... thats about 2 carpets, 4 walls, 1 tv, 1 computer, 1 couch, 3 weeks of labor, a few cans of paint, 4 big fans and one really pissed off wife...."

I have a 225 that the bottom trim is missing on one end, but its 1/2 glass with a double bottom and a 3 inch strip running all the way around the bottom of the tank on the edges. Its not setup yet and I have no clue on who makes trim for the tank with a 72x30 footprint. I think it will be ok. Theres alot of rimless and trimless tanks built and if they build them to sell theres gotta be some security in the design.

i thought about buying a frame for the 120 i got but the lfs cant seem to find one. so i guess i going frame less but when i build te stand i lan to pull it up tight to the glass for a little extra support. an by the way mine is 1/2 inch thick also
