leaving a 110 gallon without bottom trim?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
The thing about rimless or trimless tanks is that they were designed to be that way. Yours was not! When a manufacturer builds and sells a rimless tank they are assuming the risk by doing so. Whoever manufactured your tank did so with a rim for a reason, They didn't trust it without it, so should you?

heres my thoughts ,when I moved my 70 gallon allglass slide in the truck, the bottom trim broke,,I never really thought about it,,I put some fancy trim around the top of the stand so you couldnt tell,,it was in the basement reckroom filled for ten years till I got my 200 ,,maybe I was lucky

on newer tanks there is a black plastic rim that goes around the bottom (its usualy black) but if the tank is more than 10+ years old (like my 150) then it dosent have this. any trim on there is for asthetic perposes. These older tanks were designed to not have trim as structrural support becuase they are made with thicker glass (they usualy lack center braces too)

basicaly if the trim is difficult to remove dont remove it it is keeping the tank together if it just comes right off your fine

Your tank has a crossbrace on the top trim, right? This cross brace adds support so the tank doesn't bow.

The bottom trim piece also has a cross brace, right? So now you have people telling you that this piece is not needed:screwy: I'm sure the manufacturer just put it there for looks and not for added support were the water pressure in the tank is at it's highest.

I can see if the bottom trim has a center brace like the top, then its meant for support. My trim is just there to cover the double bottom and silicone.

i still say it will be fine like i said before you got 1/2 inch glass an a piece of plastic thats only a coule thousands thick how much you think it will realy hold
