LED lighting for 300 gallon tank 8 foot long

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Yeah the led+ looks great but I have to upgrade my stand and filtration first so I was thinking about just using a few spotlights for now and then buy the currents later on. Just wanted to make sure they didn't burn out on u or anything lol, u were using 2x30w and a 10w rgb right? Would 3x30w and 2 rgb's be overkill?

Way overkill....three 20w rgb's would be enough I'm sure. Depends on how bright you like it...I like the sa look myself.

Do u think the rgb's would look too fake without some 6500k? I actually prefer the marine actinic/purple look over cool white but not sure if that can be achieved with the spotlights.

That's why I did the two with the rgb in middle and I left it on blue 24/7 and had the other two on same timer. I think you might like the two white and rgb in middle it sounds like. The only think that I didn't like to much was they had a little yellow look to them and it wasn't pure white. I'm sure you seen my videos and can see it on there.

I have rays and like bleach white sand, so I think blues and whites would look nice
Heres a few of paulbearer's youtube videos to compare the floodlights and current led+

Sorry for kinda hijacking your thread btw, u said cheap though and the floodlights are only $10-20 on ebay so they're probably the cheapest option for LEDs. The led+ look nicer and have more lighting effects but the 48" fixtures cost around $130 each so it just depends on how much u want to spend

I don't like the yellow look either, were they labeled 6500k or cool white? The 30w has a great shimmer effect at that height but a little dim for my taste (although the fish would enjoy it). The video with the led+ is exactly how bright I like my tanks though, I wonder if the 50w would be closer to that intensity

That's a really barge difference in lighting quality from the videos... If I must I'll buy beamswork again. I am familiar with their lights as I have many, but if there was another cheap alternative that would be great. I plan on purchasing a 72 inch beamswork light if I have no other option:/
