nice set up on the LED. I just stumbled upon this thread and I think I am going to try to go with this for my new tank that I am working on. I just not sure how many LED I will need for a 220 gal tank, 6'x2'x30. Do you have any idea how many I should be putting on a tank that big? I am going to be using a few blues for night lighting so i can see my catfish swim around.

Just get an output of say 7000 lumens and it will be bright as!!

I've worked on 1000 lumens per foot of tank length at 2.5 wide with good results.

my question is: will this kind of light work for a heavy planted aquarium? is there gonna be enough light for the plants? i really like this light looks very cool and modern, would love to make it for myself but not sure about plants

when you are talking about plants, you need the right spectrum.
I read on the Practical fishkeeping website that the ribbons from qeglobal.com have high PAR so are suitable.

These ribbons http://www.qeglobal.com/flexible-led-lighting/bright-day-light-led-strip.html

How big is the tank you are looking at doing?

more i read about leds more i want one for myself but its getting way too confusing. my tank is 125 gallons and so far my main problem is figuring out how many individual leds i'll need to have a high level light intensity in my tank, any help would be greatly appreciated.
