I posted this in the Ray forum, but thought others would like to see it as well..

I recently did a video review on the MarineLand Double Bright Lighting system...

Check it out:

Thanks for the review. I am unhappy with my current lighting as it is less than 1wpg and Im trying to grow plants :( . I'll have to look into the LEDs to see if they are good for plants.

Thanks for the review!!! Seeing them side by side was really helpful. I have plants in my tank, and I've heard that they work well. I'll make sure to post a threat when i get my double bright.

It's gonna cost you a LOT of money to get enough LED to grow plants. I'd suggest t5 until LED gets cheaper unless you have a ton of cash.

I dont think so.....I have a 48" doublebright.....not a bad fixture.....to grow coral or plants I recommend the Ecoxotic Panorama Modules....they are 100. each and you would need 4 for a six foot tank....but: They last 50,000 hours and use less than 100 watts for 4 units with little heat. The saving on 8 years worth on bulbs would be hundreds. The saving on electricity would be hundreds ( thousands in CT) . These lights will grow corals no problem and will grow plants very well. The lights seems small but have blinding output and great deep penetration for deeper tanks.....I borrowed one of these from a new LFS to check how it fit in my canopy.....side by side with my Marineland doublebright it rocked! I could fully plant my 150 tall with 4 of them but my Dats would hate the brightness! I am planning on adding one to supplement the tank in a few weeks once the tank is up and running.....plenty of time to fine tune the lighting!

So I have been struggling to find a LED fixture that is sufficient to give lighting to my 6 footer. I own 2x of the Marineland Dbl Bright LED's on my 40 gallon and absolutely love them. However, I am not willing to dish out almost 300 to get them for my 6 footer.

I have tons of friends here that Hula Hoop and love LED Hoops. Most of them use LED tape in their clear plastic hoops and suggested I try looking at a certain website.

Here is the link...

Demonstration video...

You get...
16 feet of tape
Can trim at every 3 lights
Waterproof
Remote controler
4 colors (White, Red, Green, Blue)
3m adhesive tape on back
Increase or decrease brightess
10 lights per foot
50,000 hour life span
$99!!!! :nilly:

Definitely getting this for my tank and wanted to share with you. Screw buying over priced fixtures that are advertised for aquariums.

^ have you seen those strips on a tank? 150 leds at 29w suggests low wattage leds .2w each. I'm still learning about leds but I'm under the impression that leds need to be the 1w or 3w varity to but out really bright light and that multiple small ones don't preform the same. Also the color temp of the white light will have a strong influence on the way your fish look.
