Have you looked into flexoble LED strips? You can place them anywhere you want and most strips you get have a sticky tape on the back that you can place anywhere. I put blue LEDs on my tank so it screws with my RTC's head and makes him think it's dark so he comes out a lot more.

BTW they're fairly cheap. You can get a 5 meter roll for $50
Yeah I've seen those, but most are very dim. The low light output is barely good enough to serve as moonlights. I'm looking for fixtures that run some high-output LEDs, even brighter than the stuff that Marineland makes, which isn't that great :)

Be interesting to see the white light when you get it. I don't know that two of those over a 4ft tank would be too bad.

Video. Shimmering effect is really cool. In person, the 3000k don't look that bad, gives it a real natural look. But it's not something I'd like to have on at all times!

Jose, I'm glad you got one and it does light up your whole tank, Cool. Can't wait to see the clean white light ones over your tank.

To be honest, the dimmer look has been growing on me. And the gf likes it too. She knows nothing about fish but did say it gives the tank a more natural look as opposed to the stadium lighting of T5HO where every square inch of the tank is bright. I'm sure I'll like it even more when the white light comes in.

Only concern at this point is the white light washing out all the color of the fish. We'll just have to see

You guys have to see this light below to believe it! It is very intense and bright! When I was at the warehouse I was able to see all the different LED options they had available and he showed me this 40 watt panel and I was blown away! Super sharp bright white light from a slim low profile panel! Not cheap type LED but nice pro ones. He said pro photographers use these led to light there photo subject. I desperately wanted to get this light for my set ups but for the price I went with the 10 watt led and bought 6 of the 10 watt led instead of one of the light pictured below. But damn did I want to take that bad boy home. If I had the money I would get the lights shown below. They are amazing. Remember I saw these at their warehouse in person so I know how each LED lights they have work and look. Don't be fooled by the demo picture, this light is a BEAST! Check it out...

I don't think you've started the "LED light revolution" but your thread and research has certainly been helpful. I've been considering LED for quite a while now, just have kind of been waiting around to see what prices would drop to and what sorts of options there would be.

I'm going to be really excited when LED finally gets low enough in price to easily do high light planted and coral applications without flinching when I go to grab my wallet. In 10 years LED is probably going to be cheap as dirt.
I dont get credit for anything..:(:(

That's very cool! I wouldn't mind paying for 2 of those for my tank. Only problem is they're 30-50 degree view angle, which would result in a very focused beam. The flood lamps for example are 120 degree, which gives a much wider spread of light. These would give a very pronounced spot light look

It did say you could remove the lense for a 120 degree flood look.

I've got one of those. It was the first LED product that I purchased, to see if it was possible to grow plants. They do work well, the only drawback is that they cast a very bright spot about 12" in diameter through 24" of water. It made plenty of PAR to grow Glossostigma but I would need at least 12 units to cover the footprint of my 225 gal. tank. I removed the lenses and it now serves as equipment lighting under the tank stand for:ROFL:$145. Ouch!
