Yes and no.....the price pretty much tells you.. and if the lights have some kind of cooling system normally fans.Would LEDs designed specifically for saltwater situations be typically of better quality than those with freshwater in mind, or not necessarily so?
Reef lighting is very bright with colours that not only replicate the sun as it would be undrrwater but also spectrums that make the corals pop.
I've made a few led units in the early days....a 6 channel version ( storm controller) and then a bigger 16 channel ( storm x )
The cost was about half the price of shop prices and a weeks work to makes it.....its not worth the effort these days.
I made it back in 2015 sold it in 2019 and the buyer is still using it now on his reef.
In all it doesn't take much light to grow plants hence the 12% I use.
In my sump I have all the main plants and they are growing under 2x tunze leds that cost £60 each
