Anyone that's has ever used LEDs for normal FW applications (maybe not highly planted) probably prefers them for a number of reasons including:

Power savings
Fixture/led life
Color
SHIMMER

I wouldn't buy a fixture other than LEDs ever again, and as the technology improves we are getting better and better LEDs at better prices.

What do you have for LEDs? Lets see some pics, need stats and what you would have done differently. For example, on my 8x4x2 500g 2- 10w led floodlights was a bit dim, 4 was overkill.

I'm getting a 150g and doing LEDs, just want to see some examples and see what I like. Last time I bought a led fixture there weren't a ton of options.

I got the Current USA Truelumen strips. Put 3 of the 24" ones on my 96"x30"x24" and it's perfect. I wasn't sure how many I would need, so I started with 3 which was good because that's all I ended up needing. I don't think there's anything I would've done differently.

I definitely like the shimmer effect and the power savings are a nice bonus. 48 watts to light the tank. I'm using more than that on my 36g planted tank. Need to switch that over to LED too but I would like to see the prices drop a little. Getting these for my 300 was not cheap, but they should last a very long time.

Here is my perfect lighting. all the other ones are good but here is one Im proud to say is lit right.(to me)

11" cube lightly planted it is the beamswork 9w clip on light.

Oops i was talking about my other tanks light, realize what i wrote makes me sound like i have the best light. just ment my 6g is the standard Im setting my other tanks to

PROS:

power consumption, luminosity, and the glitter effect it creates with surface agitation( i love that :) )

CONS: color temperature

seriouslly leds are very cool and bright but they wash out your fish's colors. I find that CF lights still gives the best color index, in my next hood im gona DIY is gona be a combo of both, CF for color and LED for the glimmer effect i love.

All in all I like these units. They were a little too expensive but the quality of them is great. I would agree that the LED color do wash my fish out a little. But the shimmer effect and dimming capablity make up for that. Of course the power savings of these is fantastic and I'm sure they will last a long, long time.

So I have 2 Marineland double bright 48 inch on my 96" tank; the brightness and shimmering is good. What annoys me most is they don't have separate power supplies so I have to manually toggle for the moon lights.

The color is a little too yellow for my taste, I wonder if I add a couple of 10W blue/Actinic BlueLED floods, would that help?

Thanks

Really bright and would say they are a 7500k range, there were a DIY set up and got a good deal on the powersupply fro the brother in-law through his workplace. Think I spent $150 total and I normally run only half the LEDs.

All on I would compare to 3x70w MH in intensity.

I also run TrueLumen Pro strips, a 36" and a 48" on my 96x48x30. I actually bought 2 of each but that was way overkill and only needed 2. I definitely like them but I also agree the CF's do give better color on the fish. I also run some lunar LED's at night which are bad ass and seem to help with the color when run at the same time.

I just received my 50W LED floods from hong kong. 6000k-7000k.
I've only hooked one up so far, quite bright on my 90G. beam is a bit narrow but it won't be sitting on the glass on the new tank.
