LED owners unite

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
have a 48' marineland doublebright on my 125 SA tank and like the look, not too bright and what i consider a naturally amount of light. For my african tank I like brighter lights and feel t5ho is my best option, not willing to gamble the fixture will work flawleslly long enough to break even.

Ya i was thinking on my 150 to go with the Marineland double bright. do u have pics? Im either doing a cichlid tank or a rhom. i just wanted to see a lot of different options because going through everyone's threat when they set one up is getting tedious

So I have 2 Marineland double bright 48 inch on my 96" tank; the brightness and shimmering is good. What annoys me most is they don't have separate power supplies so I have to manually toggle for the moon lights.

The color is a little too yellow for my taste, I wonder if I add a couple of 10W blue/Actinic BlueLED floods, would that help?

Thanks

I too have the Marineland Double Bright and opened it up to add a second power source so that I can control the moon lights separate from the daytime lights. I have them an separate timers so that at night my moonlights are on and during the day the daytime lights are on. I really like them but I have noticed additional algae growth on my glass aquarium top after switching to this LED light setup from my CFL that had a starter/ballast burn out. Rather than spending $25 on what I felt was old technology I opted to upgrade to LED since it would theoretically be something I wouldn't have to worry about replacing parts on all the time. Now, after having it for several months I'm still on the fence. I dislike the algae growth enough that I may opt to go back to my CFL housing before too much longer. With the Coralife CFL bulb I had in it I never had to worry about algae growth. I have a magnetic glass scraper and in the two or so years I switched to this tank with the CFL setup I never once had to use that magnetic algae scraper. If I start getting algae growth on the sides like the top that needs additional maintenance then I'm officially done with these LEDs. The standard single bright ones were way too dim so that's not an option. These appear to be as bright as the CFL but the spectrum of light appears to promote algae growth which I'm not a fan of.

here is my 125 with the marineland double bright, not as bright as the name implies but it created the look I was going for
