Another one I bought is submersible tube that I tied with fish line in the front rim to provide front light. It is dimmer but provides front lighting.

All my tanks are lighted with cheap China made LED from Ebay. I have no problem with any of them, and the oldest ones are 3 years old, still shining.
Mine don't make noise yet it's hard to tell over the overflow and lifeguard pump but I can get led bulbs for 30 a piece so I might just do that.i did that for my 150 for years, ballasts can be loud however
The water should shimmer as long as the surface is moving.I was looking for a fixed point LED (like the PAR38) to get the shimmer effect. I have a 4 bulb T5 fixture made for hydroponics over my main tank now, but it doesn't have that pop I am looking for.
yeah, I was thinking about the Kessil A80, but they aren't cheap and the mounting bracket it comes with would be worthless.Kessils are nice, but not cheap
