LED powered by phone?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Phone lines are like 40+ volts and don't require much power. A phone like could easily power it

Yes! It would work good and is a cool idea! Just make sure your fish don't make any unauthorized phone calls! (976-Tuna! :D)

Yeah, 48 volts DC for supervisory/talk and 70-88 AC for ring voltage.

Its Low current though so you can't power tons of stuff off of it. If you power too much then the phone switch may take you off hook then after a while you will get error tone and no incoming calls. After a long time, it might shut your loop thinking that there is an error on your line. Caller ID may also be affected since it uses battery reversal. Ringing might cause the LED to flash.

This depends on your local loops, different telco switches do different things. It is worth a try though. Just use one.

ok i think im going to buy one. i might get a usb powered setup because my tank is next to my computer

be careful with usb powered stuff you may burn the motherboard out on the computer...........i work IT and i see it all the time

I have decided to go for a usb led light which i will plug into my ipod wall adapter ($2.80 from same place).
