Has anyone built their own LED lights for their tanks? I am setting up a 75 and I don't necessarily need anything that will grow plants but I want it to be pretty bright and run cool/efficiently. Anyone know of a good read or places to get materials or anything like that?

You can build or you can buy a 36 inch or 48 inch led light from finnex. They are inexpensive and do a great job lighting a tank. You can even grow low to medium light plants if you decide to go that route in the future. I use them on 3 tanks. Amazon.com has them.

Those Finnex look pretty nice and at $65 I doubt I can build something that can outperform it. Xraycer your link did not seem to work for me?

Hmm, I just clicked on it and it worked for me.
Its off Ebay and its a 15ft long waterproof LED strips that comes with a power supply, and a remote to change it to different colors. Best part is it sells for less than $20shipped. Try going on EB and search "LED RGB 3528"

How exactly do you have it set up? It seems like a pretty cool idea i am just not sure how you would go about setting up the lights over the tank.

Ways of setting this up is limited only by your imagination. If you have a wooden canopy then you can just stick right inside the canopy. Some people just lay these flat over the glass covers. Some people attach these inside rain gutters.

I like the rain gutter idea! I could use that then build a nice looking box to go over it. Or maybe an entire canopy...

That's a good deal on the LED strip. My bro-in-law bought something similar to light up underneath his reef tank. For functional lighting and a glow through the acrylic doors on the stand...
