catch it and feed it to ur fish. i have turtle so if they live a week without getting eaten they're lucky. they've never hurt my pond or fish tanks.

what are leeches; i know what they are but are they someknid of insect's larvae stage or something like that?
why do ponds get leeches, where do they come from?

Leeches are a type of annelid worm like earthworms but they feed on blood, there are tiny ones that only reach an 1/8th of an inch long and big ones over a foot long, they can get into your pond on the feet of water birds, or by just crawling there, they have no problem traveling around in wet grass.

Amen GUPPY. Most peeps don't relise how potent hydrogen peroxide can be. One other thing to consider. Uv light(sunlight) breaks down h2o2 very quickly. This renders a quick oxygen rush to the water. If you want it to react on somthing else, maybe apply it close to dark to preserve the h2o2 from the uv reaction.
Another method suggested by the Schoharie County Soil and Water (Conservation District News) is the 'Leech trap.'

Start with a coffee can with a plastic lid
Poke holes in the sides of the can with a nail. Holes should be 1/8 to 1/4 inch in size. The nail holes should leave a sharp burr on the inside of the can (approximately 50 holes).
Put about 1/4 cup of raw meat in the can (ground beef, liver, chicken or turkey giblets are recommended).
Put the lid on the can and submerge it completely in your pond. A rock placed on top of the can will prevent it from falling over and will help prevent snapping turtles from tampering with it.
Check the trap a couple of times a week and remove the leeches. Keep the trap in the pond until the leech numbers decrease, or you no longer catch any leeches in the trap.

Hey I know this thread is super old, however I need help!!

I went to clean my pond filter tonight and was surprised by in the region on 5000+ tiny leeches and what looks like bloodworm also!!

I need help on how to get rid, i have been cleaning filter for about 3 hours trying to get rid!!

Are they harmful? I have about 20 goldfish/comets and 2 yellow belly sliders.

Also live in the UK so unsure if the temps change the kind of leechs??

Help please!

I think those are planaria. They live under rocks and in filters in ponds. They are harmless.
