I know what you're saying about the conservation issues, but you also have to consider that there ARE a lot of range areas that ARE candidates for conservation. For example, Borneo, the Berbak Wildlife Reserve, Cat Tien National Park, several Ramsar Convention Sites, The Cardamom forest in Cambodia and several other protected areas throughout Indonesia.
To say that conservation is not possible isn't true. This is also not all about money, and these animals are not just "products" to be bought and sold, and their conservation should not be an issue of profit or loss, but rather we as human beings taking the initiative to save a species from extinction, of which, we are responsible.
Whether there is a "lack" of arowana throughout Indonesia in the hobby market is no excuse to not care for conservation. Just because the people of the Indo Burma region can easily aquire a captive bred or even wild caught aro, is not an excuse to not want to help in conservation.
