Legal Issues In AUS?

If a fish is illegal/ blacklisted surely it wouldn't be available, and I'm pretty sure you'll need import permits to bring fish into Aus?
 
I did add Australia lists to the Restricted Species Lists in the Marketplace pinned articles. ALthough, I'm glad you pointed out that I need to remove the 'by state' portion of the title.
 
The reason I asked is because gar are supposed to be illegal here (TAS), but people still manage to get hold of them. And I don't really want guys in bullet proof vests kicking my door down because I kept a restricted species.

Also, are gar legal to keep in the rest of the country? Or banned everywhere.
 
Thanks Oddball. I couldn't find the fish I want on the list. So far its looking pretty positive. :) would still be nice to know what government department to ring though. :)
 
The links I posted had departements, names of individuals to contact and phone numbers. None of those where any help?
 
The government is really rude down here, if you ring the wrong department they just hang up. They don't tell you where you're supposed to be ringing (because they don't know themselves) or try to help at all, so I'm giving up ringing anywhere until I'm at least 95% sure that I'm ringing the right place. :)
