Legality Question

Well according to the previously posted regulation, you can absolutely breed longears. You just have to order them from a commercial farm (such as Zimmerman's Fish) and make sure you keep all of the documentation. Otherwise they will "presume" it's caught from PA.

But as for selling the offspring of longears obtained this way, I don't really know how that would work out. You wouldn't have any documents showing their purchase, but perhaps you could photograph their growth for evidence. The regulation didn't really comment on this, but maybe that's because you start getting into aquaculture regulations. Either way, the store might not want them either since they wouldn't have any proof of purchase. They sure are gorgeous though!

Oh! And here in FL you can't sell natives either unless purchased from a farm. However, native fish often show up in the shipments of ghost shrimp. Since the stores can't sell them they usually give them away to whoever is interested.

Actually I sent a message to the pfbc and apparently I can't even own longears no matter what and where the source is or any state endangered or threatened species for that matter.

How lame of PA :(

They show up on the stocklist from Segrest Farms from time-to-time and get shipped all over the rest of the country! But here in FL our restricted list is huge (e.g. piranhas, FW stingrays, dorado, jardini arowanas, etc...) so I understand if they can't sell them to PA stores.
