And there is the catch. The "grey area" referred to in an earlier post is quite simply that if there is no law against it then it is legal. If you could find anything further for the other states and territories I would very much appreciate it.
I understand importation is prohibited unless AQIS authorised.
Where is the legislation that states that the sales and ownership of asian arowana is prohibited if the fish was locally breed ? I just looked up my state which is NSW and it mentions nothing.
You honestly think you can just breed them? LOL. I'm pretty sure the world would know who accomplished such an amazing feat by now if there was actually someone in australia who was able to breed them.
All Australian states have different rules and regulations.,
Here is the link to Queensland DPI&F noxious fish list this is currently being reviewed
You will see that Gar are on the list, but you are able to get a permit to keep them
2 Aussie MFK members I know have a permit to keep Gar.

It is illegal to import or trade in Asian arowana as Aust is a signatory to CITES
Green Arowana have been bred in Australia for many years and are available every year, I have had several over the last 20 years and currently have one.
All other Asian Arowana species have been illegaly imported/smuggled with out a doubt.
