Could old legos be used as bio media? Its got all those holes and bumps...was thinking id make some nice media?

Thanks

Lol, don't know much about this, but an interesting idea nonetheless. Save some money, I guess, but don't know if it'll increase your bio-filtration as much as matrix and the sort.

i dont think so becasue while it has all those bumps it is a smooth surface inlike cermic rings that contain pores holes.

it has holes, but not of the kind needed. It is not porous.

i just have the stuff lying around...gonna get rid of it but thought it could be used in my sump...more opinions please=D

a bunch of small pieces in a large area might work.

I believe the bio material is not the bottle neck of a sump. Most times its too high flow, imo.

Bb will grow on the surface of just about anything it can. The problem will be it won't have as much surface area as ceramic rings taking up the same space in the sump, just my 2 cents

well its a 75 gallon sump...i fill it with about 7 inches of water..and only have about 8 inches of media in there...consisting of bioballs, lava rock and filter pads on the top...so i could use the extra media and am to cheap to go buy more bioballs lol

it would work, but a 1" x 1" chunk of matrix is equal to like 100 legos
