Legos????

Hey guys was wondering will legos work in my sump tank? Has any one tried them, I want to see some input

What do you mean? Like using them for dividers or something?

Anything with surface area will work.

I actually saw a HOB filter built from legos on here one time...no lie...pure awesome!

will work as bio media but won't be as effective as more traditional bio media.

Yea thats what i mean as bio media lol atleast the small ones i mean they make so many dif shaps... Lego indiana jones !!!!

When W/Ds 1st came onto the scene, we had to experiment with anything that may provide enough surface area (before all the scintered glass and other bio-media became available).
At first, everyone used crushed up lava rock. A little later, we started seeing all kinds of things used to provide surface area for BB. For years, I used those green plastic army men toys and the monkey pieces from Barrel-O-Monkies. They worked fine until new materials became available that contain tons more surface area than these hard plastic toys.

I remember seeing on here years ago someone used barbie heads in their sump. Was that u oddball? Thought it wad cool bc it worked. And objects
that has the most surface area tends to be used. Legos can work

Plastic works fine, but there are MANY more things with a great deal more surface area. If you're going to go that route, you may as well use sponges cut up to chunks to give you more surface area.

Might be a silly question but anything with alot of surface area will work for biomedia, even if it is a completely smooth surface?
