I have always wanted a marbled pim (I actually had a small one but it died). I knew about pictus, too, but could never find one and didn't think I would. Well, now I found a place that has both. I know at least the marm is on the high side as far as price goes...it's about 6" @ $40 and the pictus is about 8" @ $75 (before discount). I don't really care about that, though.

What I want to know is what y'all prefer. I kind of like the look of marms better as adults, but the half a foot less thing is appealing. I have a temensis, so that's not really that big of an issue. Which would you get?

thanks in advance for the input.

btw, it would be going in a 210 long for a little while until my bass are big enough to not get eaten and then into a 300 wide for a couple years probably.

Where are you getting it from? Fish Palace. Thats where is got my pictus. I prefer the pictus. Just the look and the fact not everyone has one. I'd say its worth it pwmin.

yep. thanks for the input. I'm leaning heavily towards a pictus. When did you gets yours? FP is pretty much the only place worth going around here anymore (GF is okay) even though they're kinda highly priced and kinda far from me.

there at every fish store round here for around 5 dollars they hard to find???
They're pretty hard to find here. This is the first one I've seen (only been looking for a little over a year). I've seen marbled pims before and they're usually like $25 for a 3-4" one. I'm used to

I would go with the Marbled Pim,but thats just me i like "Monster Catfish".
Well they're not too hard to find around here, so I can always get one later. How long would you say it would be cool in the 300? It shouldn't have too many other bottom dwellers, but it'll have quite a few peacock bass.

thanks for the input, everyone.

I got mine about 2 months ago. i had fish palace import it for me. Then a importer on here told me that there was a second one floating around, which must be what you are looking at getting.

I would get the pictus, cause its not something everyone can get their hands on. and like you said we can find marbled pims for smaller for way cheaper.

PS. We are talking about Leiarius pictus, not the common pimolodus pictus. For those who are confused.

cool. yeah, i just got back from picking it up. I wish it was a little smaller right now, but it'll be fine. The only fish I need to move is my 4.5" flagtail. I don't have my camera right now, but i'll try n get pix up tomorrow evening.

It's barbels are completely in tact and very long, but it's dorsal has a split in it. I'm sure it'll heal quickly. My LSN that it's going in with losing its barbels all the time. I'm glad I picked it up.

Damn thing thinks it's a bichir  It likes to lay on the bichir pile. I removed the 4.5" flagtail. There is one more fish that I'm worried about. It's a buetti bichir that's about 1.5" or so smaller. Should I worry about it? I know the cat's mouth is big enough to fit it in. I've never had one so IDK if they're anywhere near like RTC's. My bigger bichirs could eat it, too but they've been together for months.

My gar managed to get in the net when I was taking the flagtail out and tried to swim through the hole between the net and the handle. It wasn't in far, so I pulled it out fine and then it swam right back in :irked:....almost to the point where I had to push it the whole way through. It's scales didn't come off where it went through, but they didn't look good. It should heal within a day, though.

I don't think Pimelodus pictus get 24" :D sry, I should have put L. pictus vs marm instead of the other way around. I had a P. pictus and bast*** blochii before
