I deceided that when I do get a 'toga it will definitly be a Leichardti, and I am now looking further into the spieces and have some questions.
-I read that Lei' are better with tankmates then the Jars so heres what I'm thinking of stocking in my 220/72"x24"x30"h. The Leichardti, 2 Sailfin Plecos, 6 Clown Loaches and 4 Silver Dollars. Will this be Ok?
-pH/hardness, I assume the pH should be kept around 7-7.5 and moderate hardness am I correct?
-I am going to build a 30gal sump for the tank and it already has a Fluval FX5 running on it which I will leave in place, What I am wondering is if I should add a power head for additional current or will the lei be comfortable in slow moving water?
-I have read that Lei's get 30" long. How long roughly will it take a lei to out grow the 220 (Im guessing 2.5-3yrs) and will a tank that measures 84"x30"x30" be good for life or do I need to get wider?

Lastly how do you pronounce Leichardti?

Thanks, Nova 8

you pronounce it "laaixaardi"..

Better check your PH target ( allthough at 7, 7.5 it should not ne a problem, anyway ). I tend to go more acidic..

no, whatever your tap water (assuming thats what you will be using) is will be fine. your arowana will thrive in whatever water you use for water changes. no need to alter anything. as long as its clean and the temperature is not too extreme an arowana will thrive in any water.

whats the gph(lph?) rating on the pump you wish to use on the sump?

leichardti's can reach 3 ft in length, you are probably refering to steves 30'' specimen, the fish will out grow a 220 in about 2 years, dont bother trying to keep it in any longer than that, because soon it WILL get frustrated and you will have problems with a fish that wants out of its tank.

a 84''Lx48''Wx 24'' will be a PERFECT permanent home.

What?

Its pronounced "like-hard-ee", When you say it at normal talking speed.... you usually drop the "h" anyway.

what??

it hqas nothing to do woith talking speed :) Would it be otherwise for a slow talker?:)

It is not an issue of leaving the "h"...the issue is whether the "ch" is read as such ( as it would in europe since it is a german origin name ) or as a "k", as you seem to suggest, my friend.:)

The fluval is 900G/ph and Im still looking into the sump, I have never built or used a sump and am still trying to find a good design to go with (if you know any good site it would be helpful) I was thinking something around 500G/ph return pump, should it be bigger.

The tap water here is dead on 7 so thats all cover then. When ever I looked for a pH requirement for them I got nothing so thought I would have a guess.

I don't plan on keeping the fish in my 220 to long, I'll probably update once it gets to around 18"-20".

I have been pronoucing it Lee-cha-ti. I dont get how Im ment to say it with a x in it, laaixaardi.

Thanks for the replies.

Miguel: - you pronounce it "laaixaardi"..

is correct!!

X would sound as "sch"..so, for us, it is "laaischardi".:)
