it hqas nothing to do woith talking speed :) Would it be otherwise for a slow talker?:)

It is not an issue of leaving the "h"...the issue is whether the "ch" is read as such ( as it would in europe since it is a german origin name ) or as a "k", as you seem to suggest, my friend.:)

I am not an aro pro but you are right about the origins. It was named after the german explorer Ludwig Leichhardt. We also have a river called the Leichhardt river that was named after him aswell. In saying this never in my life have I heard it pronounced the way you say.Be it the fish or the river I have only ever heard it as Lie-kard-tee with the T being very very subtle making it sound more of a D.The river is pronounced lie-kart.
Hope that made some sense.:)

It is ly-car-de.

End of story.

Your leichardti should be fine with the silver dollars. I wouldnt go with loaches though. They grow way too slow and also pose a threat if the leichardti attempts to eat them. They have some very nasty spines that wouldnt go down very well with the leichardti.

My leichardit is currently 30". He is coming up for 3.5 years.

end of story for you and your laicardee or whatever...just the beginning for me and my laischaardi, ok?:)

I already have the loaches, they are between 5"-7", How big would the Lei get before trying to snack on one this size.
How big is safe for a full grown Lei, Im thinking around 10".
If the Lei does get to a size where I'm worried about the Loaches I'll move them to another tank and grow them for a while.

Im pronoucing it like this from now on, 'Toga. If they ask which one I'll say the 'L' one.:grinno:

im pretty sure loach spines wouldnt pose a threat if the fish was eaten.

Either way, I like my loaches and rather them not to become a snack.

I would be upset if the Lei ate a loach even more if he died from it.

Spines getting caught in the back of the throat?

That would be very bad situation for the aro.
