Lemon fin Barb Question

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Thanks for all the help! I set up a whole tank just for them and a pair of tinfoils. They seem happy. I'll post pictures if they ever reach a respectable size haha.

I got one at 3" to go with my 5 Tinfoils, it didn't seem to grow as fast in a 100+ G tank but there is competition for food.

I have 2 large red tail tinfoils at 6-7" and 3 smaller ones 4-5" range. Their growth rates are not as fast as before when it was just them.

Unfortunately it just died on me after 5 months, not sure the cause cause it was half eaten and I don't really have aggressive fish that could have eaten it in there cause I have small black tetras that would have been eaten first and other small rainbowfish.

Here's pics of a 50 cm Hyprsibarbus at the London Aquarium. I made me scared thinking about my small babies at home. Of course there are several Hypsibarbus species, but it is very hard to tell them apart.

I have currently one 18 inch one and had two. they are currently living in a 90 but soon to be ugraded. the 90 is way too small. I will post pics tonight.

do a search on '12 Volt Man' on the photo forum for lots of pics of the 18 inch yellow fins..

I have two 12 inch normal red tinfoils and I can tell you, the 18 inch yellows fins look twice the size..

Those lemons are gorgeoussssss. RIP to the other fellow. It must've hurt to lose such a beast. But WOW they do dwarf that 90G. It looks like you tried keeping them crammed in a 20G haha. What size tank did you originally keep them in or was it straight to the 90G from purchase? Any specific feeding regiments or care points? I really want to raise mine to that size!

P.S. can you name the other tank mates you got in there? I'm on my BB so its kinda hard to tell lol.

okay, as far as feeding: I feed good quality high protein foods like Wardley's shrimp pellets, Tetra cichlid sticks and Tetra colour bits (helps bring out the orange/yellow). I feed 5-6 days a week. a day off is good for water quality and digestion IMO. When feeding high protein foods, giving a day or two off each week is good, and your fish will grow as if they never missed a day.

water changes - 1/3 once per week.

The dimensions on the 90 are standard: 48Lx 18Wx24Tall.

its barely wide enough, tall enough, but it is not long enough...

the tank mates are (were- had to move some around to some other tanks):

synodontis eupterus and synodontis notatus (cats)
Pink tailed Chalceus
and

Red Head Severum.

Hope this helps!
