This is strictly a hypothetical, but what would be wrong with adding a little pure lemon juice to aquarium water to lower ph? It's natural, it's got vitamins, just seems like it would be possible. What do all the chemists think? Where's Dr. Joe?

Another easy natural way to lower Ph is to add some wood to your tank.

-Hypothetically, I have a 150 gallon tank.
-Tap water in Birmingham Alabama is about 8.
-Fish would be mostly of the cichlid family. So, 5 severum, 2 Nics, 1 Blood Parrot, 1 Chocolate cichlid, 1 geo jurapari, 3 clown plcs, 1 rubberlip plec, 8 corys, 6 SAE. Oh, and 1 orange chromide (I know, brackish) the wife won't let me give it back.
-say I want to lower it to 6.5
-Water changes will mostly from tap, 80%, Birmingham has won awards for tap water. The other 20% will be RO/DI.
-No I knew if you responded it would mean 20 questions!!
Your 'theoretical' tank is theoretically overstocked 
(I theorized that the fish were all of a large variety, especially the 17" pleco).
The buffering capacity of your "award winning" (and meaning 'stable') water will cause the pH restabilise to the original value.
The pH swings that you create from this attempt will be harmful to the fish.
(Not mentioning the impurities nor varying acidity levels here).
Run the filtered water thru peat to slowly lower the pH.
A stable pH is more important than a spot on pH.
Now go make some lemonade and sit back and enjoy the fish (theoretically).

A little ot but I have noticed when I net out fish that have been eating my garlic enhanced homemade food,the fish actually smell like garlic!!.Was wondering if i added the lemon juice to the tank then fried them up if they would retain that complex flavor?
