Lenticulata!

Here are some pictures from tonight. You can make out some of the ditches they have dug. The lip locking mostly takes place while the lights are off, but you can see from the pictures that they never leave each other's side.

My new festaes might be in mating mode too. I know one is a female, but the other is unsexed. Maybe it is a male. They are lip locking too, as well as displaying their fins.

You did read this part right? Especially the part about those other pikes gettin 16" +....since you were gettin rid of the strigata for that very reason...kinda doesn't make sense to get a pike that will get larger. Maybe I've just got some weird method of thinkin, i dunno....

Sorry, I must have missed that part. Thanks for the heads up. As long as you think the Strigata will be fine in the 120, I might just end up keeping them. I would never split them apart if they were a pair, and if I were to sell them, I would do it as a pair. Unfortunately, I don't know how to sex them, so I can only guess that they are a pair.

Dang, from those pictures they both look like females. Was hoping they were a male and a female. Time will tell though eh? Pikes can be tricky like that, being friendly towards each other, or very aggressive almost over night. Gotta watch it. What substrate are you using? :D Love it! Also, who is that other person in the reflection? haha! YOU'RE ON CANDID CAMERA!

Yeah, my first guess was that they were both females, since they both have a white stripe on the dorsal. I will wait a while to see what happens. The substrate is Leslies Pool filter sand. The other person in the reflection is my twin sister. She was on the computer while I was taking pictures.

Dang, I need to get me some of this pool filter sand. It looks much better than the crappy play sand I have. You think Lowes would have it? I know walmart won't...:(

I have heard of people getting pool filter sand from Lowes. I think that Leslie's is one of the best. Maybe there is a Leslies pool supply near you. I think they are located around the country.

Uh, no. Remember? Podunk Mississippi...hahaha. I shalt look around, maybe Lowes will have some sort of nice sand. Do you think they would ship though?

Peanut, thanks for the shout out!

I tend to think they are both females as well. Too bad as that would be sweet if they bred. It would also be a first for that species in captivity.

Does one of them have a funky eye?

No prob bro...any time!! ;)

Yup, does look like ones has a funky eye...haha. I've had this happen more than once. Its normally caused by trauma to the eye, almost like the eye 'pops'. Its really annoying cuz i don't think it ever gets better. I was moving my lent, and she jumped, damaged her eye so it looked just like that, and it never got better, even after six months. I take that back, it got 'better' but never fully recovered. Bummer deal. I've noticed it a lot in pikes for some reason. I guess cuz they have bigger eyes than most fish or something. Any input?

Yeah, one of them arrived with a funkey eye. I think it might have been a result of the shipping process. Either way, it seems to be getting better.
Scat, I am going to wait for about a week or two to see what happens with the two pikes. If they are a pair, I am willing to sell them together. (I don't think I have enough room in my tank for two large pikes along with a festae) If they are two females, I might end up selling one and keeping the other. If you are interested, I will try my hardest to find out about the shipping process.
