Looks to be female in pic #2

NICE!!! You hooked that up! I think we all told you to do it (saltys prolly kicking himself as we speak.) Wicked looking pikes. Hope you got a pair. Im totally digging on mine ($100). Lentics are the bomb. My cincta quest sorta lost steam when I got mine.:)

Hmmm... I'm not convinced that they are lenticulata. Looks an awful lot like a strigata. I've seen pics of what was labeled a red back strigata that looks very, very similar to what you have.

Even when large, lents have dark, very distinct spots along the body that do not fade out. Yours look like depending on mood will have the body markings come and go.

Do you have both fish pictured or just multiple pics of the same fish?

Regardless they are awesome fish and I'd say that if they are the strigata you have a much rarer fish that I'd love to have!!

They could be stressed out from shipping, no?

Both fish are pictured. Upon closer examanation I have noticed one or two of those "spots" along the upper half of the body.

Would a Strigata have feckles at this size?

It's not so much the size as it is the age. There is a pair of fish at a certain website that I can't link to here that remind me very much of your fish. And yes, at 9" they still have spots on their face.

There are also pics of these same fish at a larger size all colored up and they are spectacular.

E-mail me at Scatocephalus@hotmail.com and I can link you to the pics.

Don't get me wrong, your fish are spectacular!

Thank you. My only concern is that I don't have a large enough tank to keep a Strigata (Don't they grow huge?) The tank is a 120 gallon.

I don't think strigata get any larger than lenticulata. It's sp. "Venezuela" that you need to watch out for.

With that said, lents and strigata would make me nervous even in a 120. I've had problems with much less aggressive Crenicichla species in a 125.
