Lents

Everyone else is posting pics of the new lents so I thought I would join in. I got them from John (snookn21) about a week ago for a great price. They were pretty shy for the first week. I added a pair of severums on Friday and that brought them out. They are now all over the tank. They have been eating bloodworms, mysis shrimp, and krill. No luck with pellets yet. I'm going to fatten them up a bit first before I try to make them switch to pellets.

I believe I have 1M/2F, but that's just my educated guess. Anyone good at sexing these fish??

I might be wrong, but it looks like you got all males man. At least from those pictures I didn't see any females.

They were just listed as Lents, no collection or sexing. Those were the last 3 he had and I got a great deal so I'm happy with whatever they are.

How do you sex them? The smallest one has more color and the black spot befind it's gills is also surrounded by orange. It is also just more colorful and more aggressive. The others do not have the orange and are also less colorful. I thought this might mean the colorful one is male and the others female but it could just be a dominate thing as well.

The dorsal is the key. Females will have a clear/white stripe in the dorsal, males won't. You can't miss it. Especially at the size that yours are the stripe would definitely be showing up. If you look at Nemesis thread, the last photo is of a female I believe. Or if you look in my thread I've got pictures of my female.

The orange around the humeral blotch is probably a dominance or age thing. Plus could be that that one is eating better than the others, there are a lot of factors. Really, the females are generally more attractive than the males.

beautiful lents JD. i was really tempted to get one but the daemons are growing slow and i was afraid they'd become a snack, im really regretting it. keep us updated as they grow are there any other cichlids in the tank or just them?

They are currently in my 220g with a pair of atabapo sevs, flagtail, and black aro.

No issues yet, they are pushy but not overly aggressive. They dart out a give the severums a nudge but don't really do any damage. Hopefully that does not change.
