leo gecko and uromastyx?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Everything else aside, their care is so different.

Uro's need a basking spot of about 120 degrees. This temperature is absolutely deadly for leopard geckos. You leo wouldn't last long in there.

Sooo..they're willing to compromise the health/well-being of their animals just to get their jollies?

So, coming on here and asking a ? in which i did not know at the time (now i do thanks )is considered willing to compromise the health/well- being of animals... :screwy: i thought thats one reason for a forum to have your questions answered...

No one meant to jump on you...I know I didn't...some people are just very passionate about the hobby and it comes out in the advice given, whether that advice is unsolicited or not. Just try not to take things personally and understand the animal's best interests are in mind.

Well, that remark I made was only in response to yours. Do you honestly feel that the satisfaction of your curiousity is worth the risks involved?

I agree with opiuchus ,these two herps may fight resulting in a dead leo gecko
just about the only thing you can keep with a leo is another leo

He just wanted to know if he could. If the two species were able to live with each others, then you would avise him against it. I don't see why you have to be so aggressive on an issue that simply won't happen.

However a leo and a uromastyx will not be able to live together because of differences in evironmental requirements. Not to mention if the two of them decide to burrow...

So... either the leo will get baked by the temperature or it will be destroyed in its own burrow when the uromastyx decides to burrow its own.

not arguing just curious.. what remark did i make that said i was curious and going to try it? i only asked if they would work.. i never once said i was going to try it, i asked... so now i know i shouldnt.. so you saying the satisfaction of my curiousity is worth the risks involved?... isnt it better i come on here and ask instead of trying it with out asking.. im not gonna lie its discouraging for newbies who want to be good pet owners and are willing to come on to forums and look up online info on their pets and ask questions.. with out having people "come at me" .. if you are passionate about your reptiles u should be passionate to teach... i asked for a simple answer yes or no. i dont get the Do you honestly feel that the satisfaction of your curiousity is worth the risks involved? i was curious and asked.. i wasnt curious and tried....

Sorry if I was harsh...most of it is probably stemmed from the fact that there are currently another 3-4 threads that deal with this same issue of mixing different herps, and they got rather heated, due to the stupidity and stubborness of some. After a few days of all this, and all the good points given as to why this is a bad idea, people still want to attempt it. To date, no one has given me a legitimate reason as to why this is good for the animals. It is only for the keeper's gratification.

Ophi, it is human nature to try and do it. All you can do is give them the right direction like what you tried to do in the other thread "What is your rule(s) of thumb for mixing herps?"

Most people will not take heed of the herps' welfare. Think about it. There are only two things people care about: themselves and material wealth.

The majority of them don't feel guilty when a pet die on them. The ones that do care are thinking in term of how it is their own fault that it died and how they are no longer able to take pleasure from taking care of that one pet.

However if you talk about how hard it is to set up a proper-functioning mixed community then people back away from the idea. Talk about how many hours they have to put into, how much it will cost and so on -- people don't like that unless they are really passionate about it.

its ok.. i started another thread about starting a habitat in my basement and wondered if and what i could mix.. i think that ones getting all stiired up in there.. i was high on coffee(caffiene) but im not like that cichlid/monitor im just curious to know what works and what doesnt.. i dont want you to think my curiousity is going to lead me to experiment with animals..
