LEO HELP! PLEASE!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I think under-tank heating pads (not the in the cage rocks, those are crap) are the best for leos since they really aren't fond of light. They give them heat from the substrate up, and they can be in a hide and still get warmth from it.

Get rid of the day bulbs all together and just have your room lighting for daylight lighting. You can keep the red bulbs on all day and all night. And if you don't have one definantly get an UTH (under tank heater).

i disagree with this. i would keep the day bulbs if they are giving off uva/uvb. even though leos are nocturnal they will come out right before sun set. the little uv they get from this will definately help with their well being. if you dont have uv on them then get some!

that may be, but ive also seen shows where they prove a nocturnal geckos body benefits from just a little sunlight right at sunset as much as a lizard that basks in it all day.. the gecko is stressing out. some uv rays might be what the dr ordered. there is no doubt that natural sunlight is benefical, even for nocturnal critters. yes, you can get away with not using it. heck, if this was just another hey look at my leo thread i wouldnt have even brought it up. but the leo is not eating and sounds stressed out. like i said, some good rays might be all that is needed to boost its appetite and overall health.

no way man i did a study for two years i kept 1 tank with 1.2 leos with uv and a 1.2 with just a red heat bulb and the 1.2 with uv did so much better the babies where better the color was better and i kept the tanks the same temp set up the same and had the same food they just do better without the uv if i can find some old pics of the study i will share but this was like 10 years ago

I used to breed leopard geckos.

The first thing I would do is get a fecal sample checked for parasites. That is a big cause of them not eating. Your setups sound fine to me. I have never used UVB lighting on mine.

If parasites don't show up in the fecal, it could be cryptospiridium (aka crypto) which is almost impossible to diagnose and there is no cure. There is a treatment though paromomycin.

first off though, get the fecal checked by a vet.

XD Cryptospiridium is the alien from Destroy All Humans XD

Ahem. Anyway.

PROBLEM SOLVED! It was the stupidest thing, too. She had a waxworm in with her at one point (since she wont take it from the tongs) and it buried under her water bowl. The crickets took advantage of that and hid under there. I cleaned the tank yesterday and took it out, and there had to be at least five or six in there. That's a day's meal for her so i just let them be and filled in the burrow. I saw her eat one and attempt to eat a few others. Came home today and every one was gone ^^. Thanks for your advice, everyone!

Hope she gets better;) and yea I learned first hand to not mess with Criptosporidium:( horrible indeed
