Leonardo de Fishio, always smiling

Very interesting, those lips are designed for smiling! ;)

I discriminated against my pacu. One pacu is photogenic, and the other is not. Poor Adonis looks better in person than in his pictures.

Adonis has an extra bulbous nose. Poor Leonardo has a deformed, missing upper lip from repeatedly smashing into the glass when he was housed in the 55 gallon tank.

Don't know how old they are. We've had them over 5 years. In the summer of 2005, my husband found this 55 gallon tank with fish at a moving away yard sale. Besides the two pacu, there were four large oscars and two large plecos. One of the oscars was already dying of HITH.

Six of the fish have died, their lives cut short because of the poor conditions they grew up in. Only the pacu remain. They are close to 2' in length and at least 4" at their widest part. They are very stout fellows, very strong and muscular. They feel like hard rubber. They have outgrown their 300 gallon tank. We purchased a new tank for them in August 2009, but have to build a room for the tank. Our DIY building project has been a slow drawn out process, waiting for plans to be drawn up, waiting for a building permit, hampered by rains until June 2010, then lots of time off for summer fun...now the rains have started again...hunting season interfered with the subcontractor plumber doing his thing (we're still waiting for him to finish)...New tank has been in storage since February. Have made enough progress that I'm hoping that December is the last month the tank will be in storage.

Mine are all "rescues"as well. One is 15 + years old, four are 10 yrs, one 8 yrs. The balance are younger. Most are over two feet in length & 4 to 5 inches wide.

I'm glad to hear that their tank is getting closer to completion.

They are housed in a 3300 gallon + - tank/pond with a 16" x 96" window, so that they can see out.

It is a home made plywood & fiberglass tank with 2 large sumps.
