I wanted to know what are some alternet substrates i could use for leopard geckos other than sand.

slate tiles are becoming really popular...more natural than paper or carpet, and easy to clean.

We use aspen shavings at the shop, but my wholesaler says to use cypress.

Are these the rock looking tiles?

Yeah...similar to what people use to tile floors...I personally have never shopped for them (haven't had a leo in years), but apparently you can get them at Lowe's or Home Depots. They can come in differnt colors.

Slate tiles are best, after all the Leo live in a rocky environment naturally.

Depending on the age of your gecko sand isn't a good substrate at all to use......In my tank I use the Repti-carpet with two ceramic tiles on the hot side to retain heat during the night...........

Do the leos seem to mind the difference? because my leos are breeding right now and i just dont want to disturb them but i want to clean the cage because its dirty.
