Hi. I currently have one leopard bush fish in my 29 gal tank. I dunno how old is he/she biologically but i think i bought him like 2,7 years ago maybe. Back then he was like 4-5 cm long. And now he is probably around 11 cm or almost 12 from snout to tip of the tail.

If i may, i want to ask several questions regarding my fish. First, is my fish growth considered normal or is it undergrowth? I am afraid i am not keeping it properly. Second, do i need to feed it daily? These days usually feed him one 5 cm-ish shrimp that has been cut into three pieces every three days in a week. And also 5-7 hikari sinking monster pellet as a snack at those three days interval. Is it enough? Or not enough at all?

Thanks a lot

For Bush fish that’s not a unheard of growth. Have one now that was purchased around 2.5in and now it’s 4-4.5inb Very slow. They are now captive bred and could have an affect on growth but that’s a guess. I’d try switching the scheduled feeding. Pellet daily with shrimp as a snack. Increase ur water changes to help with providing good water.

You will get different response's on feeding some will say everyday or every other day etc. I feed fish depending on the species when young everyday but once. I feed my mature fish every other day because it is healthier for them. You had the Bush fish over 2 yrs so imo your routine is fine. I personally would feed the pellet as the staple or rotate the days with shrimp on day 3 and pellet next 3rd day. If Bush fush looks healthy keep doing what you are doing.

I guess my fish growth is fine then.. ok. I will reduce the shrimp and use the pellet more often then.

I change the water once a week or once each 5 days if the water kinda messy from the shrimp and i usually dump 25-30% of the tank water. Is it good enough?

Yeah, all these years keeping it and i am still kinda confused about the feeding schedule since there are many different suggestions..

Ok. I will keep my routine except switching the shrimp with the pellets then.

About look healthy, my fish tend to become more lazy and more like to hovering in semi vertical position around my artificial plants or behind rock. Except when it see me it will usually spring forward from that position to the top of my tank. Is it normal? Especially the hovering gesture?

Test Nitrate if over 20% after the 5 days increase to 50% every week.

That sound pretty normal they are ambush predators so it is stealth hunting.
