Leopard ctenopoma tankmates

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Ahhh I see... well, seeing that I will get him in 2 months time ... really hope that he will survive the initial introduction phase. Though my tetras might become snacks for him when he reaches adult size though... oh well, thats the risk I have to take then.

African butterfly fish are sick, I have two leopard ctenopoma in a 55g (with a pictus catfish longfin sen ropefish and twig catfish) they generally dont pay attention to any top water or bottom level fish imo but fish under 3" will be eaten when they're fully grown Its fun to watch them hunt ghost shrimp though.

EDIT: i see people already said african butterfly fish whoops, you might be able to do a ropefish in there as well ive heard of people housing them in a 36g

Ropefish huh... but the thing is... I don't think it will fit... besides it is not really escape proof... something that it will do. Its actually more of an open top tank.

Yea if you dont have a secure lid any type of bichir or ropefish wont work. Maybe a small school of dwarf rainbowfish would work I say this just cause they're really fast and ctenopoma are more of a sit and wait ambush predator

QUite true... or maybe I should get a few larger tetras, like the serpae or something.

You could definitely do something like that, just make sure to buy them big. My ctenopoma hunted my 2 2.5" red eye tetras down and tryed to eat them... Couldnt tho cause they were big mind you tho my ctenopoma are 6"

Ahhhh I see, well I suppose I should buy them at the same time then. Or better, earlier than it so that by the time it grows up it will be too big for the ctenopoma to eat. I hope.
