I have an empty 29, since I moved my GT to the 75. I would like to do something with it, instead of just leaving it empty. Could a Leopard Ctenopoma (spotted climbing perch, spotted bushfish) live in it, or is the tank too small? If it won't work, what else could I put in the 29? I'd like something interesting, but I don't really want small cichlids or a community. Any ideas?

I think that a small group (about 3) could work in there for a while. You would definitely have to upgrade them later on, but I think you could start them off in a 29g.

Do they like to be in groups? Or is just one okay?

Just one is fine, to be honest I am unsure of the foot print of a 29 I am used to big tanks now lol...

since they can get around 6-8"s I would recommend a minimum size foot print of 2'x1' would be ok with live plants. They dont really swim that much so they dont need a huge tank but if you give them the space they will use it...

its 30x12x18 inches. Just a taller 20 long.

Any other unusual fish I could also have? What about butterfly fish?

Butterfly fish are pretty cool. I just got some a few days ago and they...well, they do kinda just sit there most of the time. I do like watching them eat though.

Oh, nad for the Ctenopoma, I think they like being in groups. I bought one a week ago and he wouldn't come out fo hiding. So... I got two more and he comes out more often.
All the fish in my 60g use up about half of the tank, so I would think that (as long as you plan on upgrading later) a group of Ctenopomas would be fine.

I would go for the Leopard Ctenopoma and an African leaf fish, and/or another micro pred... as it highly recommended on this site is stock for what you have not for what you might be getting...

How fast do they grow? And what tank conditions do they like? Temperature, Ph, decorations, etc.

Decoration: They like a heavily planted tank live\silk plants work best rather then plastic.

Temp: I keep my tank around 82-84*f (my current tank temp varies because it is in front of a big window.)

pH: as long as it is stable it is fine but my pH is 7.2.

They are a pretty hardy fish so they can tolerate a lot, as a general rule I dont let my nitrates get any higher then 20ppm right now it is a lot less because my fish are still small...
