leopard ctenopoma

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I have two about five inches long I have them in a community tank and do not have any problems with them they tend to be a little shy and stay in the corners and by some wood pieces. they definitely lose there pattern when the get six inches long, they become drab brown. mine are starting to lose there pattern now

I have had mine almost 2 years and are now and I don't think they are growing anymore. I swapped for a light pfs and it really helps the leopard print come out.

Ive had mine for around 18 months and its gone frim a skinny inch to the nice filled out 4-5 inch that it is now. As to setting the jaw, i was a bit apprehensive the first time but I figured it was do or die.

I have two of these guys in a 100g - they are total pushovers. Both are around 5". Even the most mild cichlid has pushed them around in the past. They are only aggro towards eachother (one is ~.5" larger and is completely dominant). They have very clear territories in the tank, and the smaller one will get chased immediately if he comes into the driftwood area that the other one hangs out in. I have seen two of them get along before in a LFS and spend all their time swimming together, which was the result I was hoping for.

They've been on NLS pellets for so long that they seem to no longer care about live food. I've kept young fish as small as 3/4" with them and they completely ignore them. Mind don't seem to like bright light, so if I want to see them out and about a lot I have to turn on something dimmer. When they do come out to socialize though, they are very personable.

I will agree that some of them get kind of gnarly as they get older - mine are very close in size, but the bigger one is much less pretty than the smaller. Less pronounced pattern, less nice body shape, etc.

They are ambush predators and will eat smaller fish. They have huge mouths so be warned. Mine are not aggressive at all I have two in a 80g. They are around 5" 6" and are out a lot although it took a long time for them to get used to me.

for now he's cleaning up accidental fry in my molly breeder (30 ga) and once he gets big enough on those he'll be going into my tank with an ornate bichir and possibly a red wolf fish (not too sure on this though, to make my tank more of a livable place for other specie I'm probably going to build him a seperate loner tank, because he's the most aggressive fish I've ever seen locally let alone kept)
