I have a customer who has a Leopard Gecko with a cloudy eye and I was wandering what might be the cause. I have considered damage to the eye and possibly too much humidity(?), but can anyone think of any other causes such as some sort of disease? I have not seen the animal or enclosure in person so I can't give any details on environment yet. If y'all can give some possible causes and cures other than already stated, I would be greatly appreciative. Thanks in advance.

Without being able to see the injury or just going on the details you have, there is no way to diagnose the problem.

I will also say that a cloudy eye is NOT normal in leopard geckos, and I would advise the customer to seek herp-qualified veterinary care immediately.

I found out that they have had the Gecko for 8 or 9 years so I don't think it's a husbandry mistake. I told them to see a vet. Probably getting cataracts in his old age lol.

mine once had a cloudy eye from a bad shed... trip to the vet and she was good as new... I would take it to a vet....

Is the leo housed with any other leos?

While leos do great in colonies and after observing my trio, I would argue that they are in fact social to an extent, they still do tend to nip at each other from time to time - not trying to do any damage to their cage buddies - but accidents can happen. I wonder if it could be a minor injury to the eye.

I still wouldn't rule out anything bacterial/fungal. I've seen leos with cases of stomatitis (mouth rot) that traveled through the upper jaw and spread into the eye socket, causing a "cloudy" eye among other things.

Good advice on sending him to the vet.

She was going to take it to her exotics vet last I heard........I suppose I should give her a call and find out how it's doing.
